2024 in TV: THE BEST AND FAVOURITES...

Nothing like new discoveries and returning faves on TV:

BEST NEW TV SHOW:

SHOGUN (HULU/FX):

you have heard how great this show is and once it grips you, then you'll get it too.

THE REST IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

THE COMPLETELY MADE-UP ADVENTURES OF DICK TURPIN (APPLE TV+) (SEASON 1):

totally hilarious!

BABY REINDEER (NETFLIX) (SEASON 1):

Netflix's unlikely smash hit but a stunning look at everyday masculinity in the average man and that astonishing confessional scene it the year's biggest gut punch.

ABBOTT ELEMENTARY (ABC) (SEASON 3)

with principal Coleman leading the way, school is in full swing now.

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (AMC) (SEASON 2)

season one was fine enough set up but this year everything got bigger, queerer, more intense.

EXTRAORDINARY (DISNEY+) (SEASON 2)

took a great debut season and ran with it to just as great heights.

JERROD CARMICHAEL REALITY SHOW (HBO) (SEASON 1)

there's reality TV and then there's Carmichael's reality life experiences. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

THE DIPLOMAT (NETFLIX) (SEASON 2)

let's talk about THAT cliffhanger and mull over its potential consequences, eh.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON (HBO) (SEASON 2)

may not have lived up to the hype for many but it is still deeply fascinating.

THE BOYS (AMAZON PRIME) (SEASON 4)

went total batshit and I can't stop watching!

2024: THE BEST NEW/EMERGING ARTISTS…

Another year's batch of the most impactful artists on my list...:

TOP OF THE CLASS:

Willow:

she's been putting out experimental albums for a while now but finally everything came together this year.

the rest in no particular order:

Magdalena Bay:

it takes a certain level of dedication to continue crafting some unique pop and here is their fib=nest yet.
Friko:

who says rock is dead?

Declan McKenna:

interesting pop that crafts wobbly elements but boy does it work!

The Lemon Twigs:

so much has been made about their sound and the band shrugs it off with irresistible hooks.

Tinashe:

it takes time to perfect sound and who hasn't been caught up in her groovy songs this year.

Cindy Lee:

an exhaustive body of work but each project exquisitely crafted.

Doechii:

beneath the bad bitch exterior lies a steely-eyed craftsman.

BONUS PICK...

Chappell Roan:

just missed out on being picked last year but her impact this year on the basis of a hit track, touring with Olivia Rodrigo and her media incidents, this young lady's star is def rising.
